International Institute for Human Understanding
Fostering Tolerance , Compassion, & Justice Through Human UnderstandingMIssion
Preamble
The International Institute for Human Understanding is concerned about a world where people suffer increasing alienation, failed understandings and lack of resources to achieve quality of life. These people lack a voice in their struggle for a life free of hunger, disease, and oppression and lack the ability and access to express and create opportunities to fulfill their hopes and dreams.
Creating societies where all human beings can live in peace and achieve a quality of life based on equality, requires respect for the integrity of others, opportunities for human development and education, and a deep understanding of human nature and other traditions and cultures.
The first step in this transformation is to foster civil discourse and create new humanitarian solutions that live up to these ideals. The quest for understanding involves all systems of nature, both human and environmental, and prompts members to promote an ongoing agenda, which embraces education, inquiry, and service.
Mission
The International Institute of Human Understanding exists to foster the welfare of humankind through the promotion of tolerance, compassion, and human understanding at all levels of society from the community to the international venues through education, inquiry, and service.
IIHU was created to promote the welfare of humankind through raising consciousness and understanding of all communities through human understanding of inter-personal and inter-cultural relations.
This, in turn, promotes tolerance, compassion, and respect for human dignity, generates appreciation of differences, develops compassion and empathy at all levels of society--from local communities to international venues--and in all systems of nature, both human and environmental. Engagement in this mission for human understanding questions underlying philosophical assumptions, encourages civil discourse, and creates humanitarian models reflecting affinity, caring concern, equality, and justice
